As an online music producer, you may wonder how many instrumentals you should add to your beat-selling website to maximize sales and keep your potential fans and customers engaged. Here are a few personal tips from my experience to help expand on this topic.
The answer to this could be subjective, depending on what producers you talk to. Having said that, here are some general rules to consider. If you’re just getting started, I’d recommend you upload as many of your best beats from your existing production catalog.
At a minimum, you’ll want to…
Add at Least 25-50 Beats to Your Site
Ideally on the upper end of this range (50+ beats) starting out. Why? This will give the artists visiting your website a considerable number of instrumentals to peruse through and download. And if you produce a variety of genres, make sure to showcase your versatility in case the artist is looking for a specific style or sound. Generally speaking, this will give you a better chance of appealing to their specific tastes and the potential of making more beat sales overall.
Build Your List
Even if you only have a limited number of instrumentals uploaded to your site at first, you’ll also want to leverage the use of an opt-in page – where artists can sign-up for free beats in exchange for their e-mail address. This will help you build a list of potential customers (leads) to follow up with and keep informed via e-mail when you upload new tracks or other relevant information. I’d recommend either Aweber or Mailchimp for easily managing all your email subscribers early on.
Arrange Your Best Tracks at the Top
If you use an instant beat store like Soundgine or Myflashstore on your website (or even with an integrated music player or other third-party embed store), I highly recommend arranging your best beats at the top of your player. Especially to appeal to new listeners, this will be a sure-fire way to hook them right away. If they like your first couple tracks, they’ll be magnitudes more likely to listen to more, become more engaged, and hopefully find some titles they’ll want to purchase.
Upload As Many Quality Beats as You Have
You don’t always know which beats are going to appeal most to the artists visiting your website. And so as you start to develop a larger instrumental catalog, uploading more quantity to your site will inherently give you many more opportunities to sell your tracks. Having said that, never sacrifice quality for quantity.
