My top 7 list of websites to sell your beats online in 2015. There are a number of sites you may use to license your beats online, but these are ones I’ve personally seen results with and where I make money on a regular basis 🙂
1. Your Personal Website
If you’ve followed any of my previous music marketing & branding videos, this probably comes as no surprise to you 🙂 This is where I hands down see the most amount of traffic, inquiries and overall beat sales.  Without my personal website, I would not be able to sustain a full-time music business- and it’s why I put such a heavy emphasis on it.
Your personal website must be the central hub for your brand and business, where your potential fans and customers can find everything about you and that you offer.
Why is this so important?
Well in all reality, there are countless reasons. But here are a few of the major ones:
- You have 100% control to customize your personal website and offer the exact experience that you want your customers to have.  You can pick and choose your website layout, add and modify pages as needed, and attaching a blog with valuable posts (like this one) opens you up for multiple entry points into artists discovering you and buying your beats.
- It’s a standard for any professional business.
- It becomes magnitudes more difficult to build an authority brand, take up additional real-estate on the web and build the necessary traction you need overall to sell your beats online without your own website.
If you already have your own site up and running, great! Here are a few crucial SEO tips to help the overall quality and ranking potential for your website in 2015.  And if you’re still in the process of getting your website together or possibly revamping, I highly recommend you check out this site for some really awesome (and mobile friendly!) website layouts for super cheap. I actually purchased my template from it as well.
Please note: A number of the remaining sites listed in this video and article are only meant to be platforms to direct traffic back to your personal beat-selling website.
2. Beat Stars
You may already be familiar with the Beat Stars marketplace.  As I’ve mentioned in a earlier videos, it’s an excellent third-party website to sell your beats online in my experience. I don’t make a killing from Beat Stars beat sales, but artists regularly purchase my beats from the platform. It’s very much worth it for me to have a presence there, and here’s why:
- It’s an authority website that already gets a substantial amount of traffic (appx. 145,000 visitors per month as of the time this article is posted). And not just any traffic. The targeted traffic you actually want. Artists who are actively looking to buy your beats!
- It’s a very minimal investment (you can see the various membership tiers here) for what you get, and the highly trafficked platform for you to make some extra beat sales and supplement your personal website income.
- You can sell your non-exclusive beat licenses (leases), as well as have the option to sell exclusive rights to artists who have inquired.
If I had not have had my instrumental catalog on the Beat Stars website, I would have left a big chunk of money on the table over the years!
3. Soundclick
Even though there’s been a lot of talk of the decline of Soundclick over the years.. it’s still very much an authority website and an additional online property you should occupy and sell your beats on. I’m not sure that Soundclick will ever get back to where it once was in terms of producers selling their beats to artists, but I wouldn’t rule it out just yet. And seriously, it’s only a $10/month investment for a VIP account.

4. Beat Brokerz
As the name implies, Beat Brokerz is another third-party marketplace to sell your beats online. They’ve done a good job to build their brand up and get targeted traffic to the site over the years. Â Artists can discover your beats organically, and as you’re building up your own branded website – these sites are great for extra exposure and an expanded brand awareness.
5. YouTube
This should come as no surprise, being the #3 ranking website in the world and all 🙂 You might not think of YouTube as a platform to sell your beats directly… but that’s just another place your personal website comes into play. Putting out great content on YouTube is a super powerful way to attract artists into discovering you, subscribing to the value you provide and over time turning them into customers.  I would also encourage you to do your keyword research and figure out what people in your niche are searching for. This will give you a good idea of some topics or keywords you may want to target. Organic discovery through YouTube and Google is extremely powerful from my personal experience.
6. Soundcloud
You more than likely already have your Soundcloud page setup and have your beats uploaded there. Â But if not, you definitely want to leverage the traffic and exposure from this platform. It’s free to setup and get started. But I also recommend looking into their paid tiered accounts as well if you’re a prominent Souncloud user. There’s a lot of really great additional insights that you won’t get with the free account, and can help you to better understand your target audience and who is most likely to purchase your beats.
I would consider myself a moderate Souncloud user, however the pro account has proven to work very well for me.
7. Reverb Nation
When I think of Reverb Nation, I generally think of a music platform for bands, musicians, etc. But there’s really a wide array of music available on the site. I shot a video a while back on how I’m able to consistently rank #1 in the Reverb Nation charts in my city for all genres of music.  I step through all the small changes I made to rank in the charts and get more exposure for my instrumentals and brand.
Staying at the top of the charts enables me to get more eyeballs on my beats, and drive them back to my website beat store. There are ways to sell your beats directly on Reverb Nation, but I like to use it only as a discovery platform. Again, my personal website is my main hub – and 9 times out of 10 my goal will be to drive all traffic there because I can fully control the experience.
Honorable Mentions
These aren’t necessarily music or beat-selling websites, but I can tell you they are all most definitely platforms you can leverage to sell more of your beats online. They’ve all been huge tools in my continued success and I recommend utilizing every tool you have at your exposure to maximize your results and generating more income. All of these websites combined have enabled me personally to live off my music business full-time, and is the only reason I’m passing along this information to you 🙂
